Optional Boardwalk Tour

At the close of Monday's (9/22/14) sessions you will have the opportunity to participate in a guided tour of Maumee Bay's Boardwalk Trail.  The tour will be led by Maumee's naturalist who will lead us on the two-mile round-trip walk from the Nature Center to the Observation Tower and returning to the Nature Center.  For more information on Maumee's Boardwalk Trail check out NeoNaturalist.com and TrekOhio's reviews.

Parking

Parking at Maumee Bay is free.  The Lodge has two large lots with additional lots at the Nature Center and on the west side of the Inland Lake

American Civil War Museum of Ohio, Tiffin OH

Fort Meigs: Ohio's War of 1812 Battlefield, Perrysburg OH
Fort Meigs is a War of 1812 battlefield located in Perrysburg, Ohio. A reconstructed fort and museum help bring history alive. Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center, Fremont OH
The Hayes Presidential Center is home of the nation's first presidential library and museum.  A tribute to 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes, the facility is built on 25 acres of the President's beloved "Spiegel Grove" estate and includes his 31-room Victorian mansion, Museum, Library, and burial site. The main entrance is located at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues. As visitors drive onto the grounds, they pass through one of six sets of gates that originally were located at the White House.

Historic Old West End, Toledo OH
This neighborhood remains one of the best kept secrets in the country. Twenty-five city blocks making up one of the largest collections of late Victorian houses left standing in the United States. Metroparks of Toledo, Toledo OH
Metroparks preserves many of Lucas County 's most unique natural and historical features, from Ohio 's only "moving" sand dunes to the 35-room Georgian colonial home of an auto baron. Twelve Metroparks and two trail corridors make up the 9,000-acre park system, and additional land is being acquired for future parks. Each Metropark is located in at least one of the county's primary natural regions: the Great Black Swamp, Oak Openings, the Maumee River, the Ottawa River and Swan Creek. But no two Metroparks are alike. Each has unique gems that set it apart. All Metroparks open daily 7 a.m. to dark year round. Free of charge.

National Museum of the Great Lakes, Toledo OH
Toledo’s newest attraction, the National Museum of the Great Lakes, reveals the haunting and fascinating history of our treasured Great Lakes that happen to make up 84 percent of the fresh surface water in North America. The main emphasis is on the new museum at the Toledo Maritime Center with a complete experience for visitors of all ages to include more than 250 original Great Lakes artifacts, over 40 hands-on exhibits, hundreds of photographs – some eerie, some beautiful, all historic, S.S. Put-in-Bay Island
Put-in-Bay is currently a popular historical and recreational destination.  The bay featured prominently in U.S. Naval Commander Perry's defense of the region in the War of 1812.

Schedel Arboretum and Gardens,  Elmore OH
At the Schedel Arboretum and Gardens, it's spring year-round. See gardens of nearly 20,000 annuals, roses, perennials, irises and lilies, including a Japanese garden complete with Torii, waterfall, pools, lanterns, bridges and a pagoda. Snook's Dream Cars, Bowling Green OH
Automobile history comes alive in this 1940s-style Texaco service station. Visitors may view cars from the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's displayed in period scenes. Snook's Dream Cars is conveniently located just north of Route 6 in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Sylvania Historical Village & Heritage Center Museum, Sylvania OH
The Village is home to the Heritage Center Museum, a 1902 house that was home and office to a local doctor; an 1840 log home that is furnished with appropriate items depicting pioneer life; the train depot of Sylvania that dates back to 1858 and was in service until 1956 and is the oldest existing depot in Ohio; a reproduced 1850 timber frame barn that houses the blacksmith shop; a reproduction of an authentic Quarry Stone Schoolhouse that originally stood in the village is on its way to completion.
